So it would appear conservatives do actually believe in reparations. What else could one call the nearly $2 billion fund created to compensate the January 6th, 2021 rioters? Whether we call them terrorists or freedom fighters, they are undeniably profiting as a consequence of what they endured.
Of course, I doubt Republicans actually grasp the true depth of their hypocrisy. There are living survivors of the Tulsa race riots whose homes were destroyed and family members massacred by racist whites decades ago, none of whom have received any form of restitution whatsoever.
The arguments in opposition are tired but superficially true. Young white men protest endlessly: "This happened before I was born! Why should I have to pay for a crime I didn't commit?!"
In answer to that, I can only quote the words of the Holy Bible: that the Lord in heaven punishes a son for the crimes of his father unto the tenth generation. And what works for the Almighty above, must also work for the frail and miscreant human beings who inhabit this humble Earth below.
Do I personally believe in writing a massive check to African-Americans to assuage America's guilty conscience? Hell no! It would solve nothing, and only engender bitterness amongst the American people, laying the foundations for even worse transgressions to come.
What I do believe in however is meaningfully addressing the ancient crimes of history in a way that both levels the playing field and restores a sense of fairness in those who have born witness to the worst travesties of human civilization. Just as the Pharaoh of ancient Egypt was forced to forever liberate the Jewish people, and give them the freedom to choose their own fate, so too must America liberate African-Americans. And if that decision is truly, honestly overseen, with an emphasis upon doing what is right, then the descendants of former slaves will not need any reparations, for they will be properly equipped to realize success beyond anything they could possibly have heretofore imagined.
So that is my personal position on the question of reparations. I envision a world in which they are not necessary; a world in which freedom has rendered them obsolete. And perhaps one day, after the insincerity of billions of dollars in payments by white people exclusively to white people, America will realize that there is a better way of running this country, and liberty will truly thrive in this aspiring nation.
